Identifying Special Learning Needs in Young Children
The purpose of Child Find is to discover whether your child has special learning needs, to identify what those needs are, and to provide the programs and services that will best address them. Child Find assists school districts in the identification of children who have disabilities, delayed development or learning problems. These children, ages ranging from birth to five, may be eligible for specialized services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) Child Find Specialists in each school district provide free screenings that examines your child’s hearing, vision, cognitive, social, language and motor development. Based on screening results, your child may receive more in-depth evaluations to assist in determining his or her eligibility for pre-kindergarten special education services.
